Rent and Other Charges

Your rent is due fortnightly on Monday to cover one weeks rent in arrears and one weeks rent in advance. Your rent can be paid using the following methods:

  • Using a giro book you can pay your rent at any Post Office. If you need a giro book please contact the Housing Advice Team.
  • By Standing Order from your Bank or Building Society Account. A form can be requested from the Housing Advice Team.
  • By cheque payable to Midsummer Housing Association at our office at Henshaw House or by sending the cheque through the post. Please note we do not accept post dated cheques.
  • We also accept payment by the following debit cards:

Visa Electron can only be used at our offices and not over the telephone.

Payment can be made either at our offices or over the telephone.

Your rent is calculated using a formula, which reflects the property's value and the average income of the people living in the same county. Your rent covers our management maintenance and loan costs and ensures that we are able to pay for any major repairs in the future. It also helps to sustain the ongoing development of rental housing.

We will only increase your rent once a year and you will be given at least one month's notice in writing of any increase we intend to make. If you are dissatisfied you are able to appeal to a Rent Assessment Committee which is independent from Midsummer. Information on how you can do this can be found in 'A Charter for Housing Association Applicants & Residents' or you can get a copy from our Housing Advice Team.

Rent Account statements are issued every six months, if you would like a statement at any other time please ring the Rent Accounts Team on 01908 544713 or submit a request stating your rent account number (if known) along with your full name and address

Rent Arrears

Rental income is important in helping us provide quality services. We therefore take rent arrears very seriously. You should ensure that you pay your rent regularly and on the due date. If for some reason you cannot pay your rent you should contact the Rent Accounts Team immediately to discuss the problem.

You should speak to us as soon as you think your account may go into arrears to try and prevent the problem from getting worse. We can give advice and assistance on Housing Benefit and other Welfare Benefits and where necessary make referrals to organisations who can help with multiple debts.

Payment can be made either at our offices or over the telephone.

Please note that Electron payments can only be made in person at our office
