Midsummer Launches Plans for 1500 Homes in Growth Area
Plans for 1500 affordable new homes in the Milton Keynes and South Midlands Growth Area were unveiled at a re-launch of Midsummer’s Atlas Project at the House of Lords last week.
The event, which marked the completion of the first 200 of the planned homes, celebrated the success of Midsummer’s strategic partnering team, the Atlas Project, that has used modern methods of construction to complete the homes in record time, reducing traditional construction periods by thirty percent.
Hosted by Lord Bassam of Brighton, deputy to regeneration minister, Lord Rooker, the occasion was attended by guests from all over the country, including representatives from English Partnerships, the Housing Corporation, Milton Keynes Council and the full compliment of Atlas Project partners; Midsummer Housing Association, PRP Architects, McCann Homes, PDD Surveyors, ID Partnership, Woods Hardwick Architects, Jarvis Contracting, Robert Martell & Partners and Connaught Property Services.
Maggie Sherlock, Property Services Director at Midsummer Housing Association was delighted with the achievements of the Atlas Project.
“Since its inception in 2000, the Project has achieved a 30% reduction in construction time and a 5% reduction in construction cost, whilst improving both quality and customer satisfaction,” she said.
“Thanks to the success of the Atlas Project, we have already been able to provide homes for over 100 key workers, including NHS staff, teachers and police, and this is just the beginning.”
She went on to add, “Within the next twelve months, the Atlas Project will complete another 200 homes on sites at Bradville and Medbourne, and aims to start work on over 1100 homes in the next two years.”
Awards for outstanding achievement were presented by Lord Bassam to four members of the Project team; Steve Baggaley of McCann Homes, Bryan Burgess and Ben Dawes of Jarvis Contracting, and John Stephenson from Midsummer Housing Association.
