Homes for All!
New life is being breathed into the disused former Crest Packaging site on the Embankment in Wellingborough, as Midsummer Housing Association and Aldbury Housing build 141 modern energy efficient new homes to cater for the expanding population of this growing town.
Creating a new community of cluster homes, maisonettes, larger family homes and apartments, the new housing development is providing homes to suit everyone’s needs, with Aldbury developing 54 homes for open market sale, and Midsummer providing a more affordable alternative with the remaining 87, which will be rented or sold on a shared ownership basis.
“Midsummer is delighted to have this opportunity to work with the Borough Council of Wellingborough to provide more affordable housing in the area. It is a growing area, and our presence here is to try to avoid first-time buyers and local residents from getting priced out of the market by increasing prices,” explained Penny Downing, Property Service Director at Midsummer.
Councilor Patricia Diane Raymond, Deputy Mayor of Wellingborough, officially cut the ribbon to announce the scheme open on Friday 8 September, as Aldbury have now opened their show home to the public. You are invited to view it between 11am to 5pm Thursday to Monday, with prices starting at £125,500. Midsummer’s first homes will be completed in November 2006, and you are able to register your interest in one by calling Homes 2 Own UK on 0844 800 20 20.
To create a more colourful sight for the local community whilst the build is in progress, the two developers designed a competition for children from nearby Wrenn School, working with local artist Emily Conway and the NSPCC to create designs that reflect key NSPCC messages to adorn the building site hoardings. The four winning designs can be seen on the Irthlingborough road side of the development, with further copies due to appear in the coming months.
