A leading housing association in Milton Keynes has been chosen by the Government to assist all key workers in the area when they are searching for an affordable place to live.
Based on a ‘one-stop-shop’ ideal, Midsummer Housing Association will provide key workers with information and access to housing schemes available in Milton Keynes, Aylesbury Vale and the Chilterns District local authority.
Midsummer will work closely with the other Registered Social Landlords (RSL’s), as well as all the key worker employers, to ensure that the area is able to both attract and house workers that provide core services in our community, such as teaching, health care and policing.
This all comes as part of the ‘Key Working Living’ programme that was launched by Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott, on 23 March 2004. In his speech, he outlined the importance of housing in the Government’s agenda.
“We are determined to make a difference in the performance of our schools and hospitals and help those working in community safety. The ‘Key Worker Living’ programme offers housing solutions to those in front line roles in key public services in London, the South East and the East where recruitment and retention is particularly difficult.”
Commercial Manager for Midsummer, Dave Lakin, emphasises the importance of this initiative.
“We have significant numbers of key workers approach us every month looking for housing. With this unique approach, we will be able to help many more people find a home within an acceptable distance from their place of work.”
