Wow, what a month! We more than tripled the amount that we have raised already, taking us to just short of half way. With some hugely generous corporate sponsorship from Quay Housing, Thomas & Company, Lea Valley Estates and most notably Lodge Park builders, it might seem like we’ve not had to do much, but that certainly has not been the case.
We worked on the principle that the way to Midsummer staff member’s wallets is through their stomachs, and by golly, we were right! We took off our hard hats and hi-vis vests, replacing them with aprons and hairnets (well, we would have done if they hadn’t looked silly!) and picked up our tools of choice – beaters and cake tins, as opposed to trowels and diggers! And so we gave credibility to our project name – from Cakes to Construction…
The next bit of fun was a little less sweet and a lot more competitive. We held a killer pool tournament at First Base in Xscape, and invited everyone to come along. We were delighted to be joined by some of our Atlas project partners; Robert Martell & Partners and McCann Homes. Yvonne from McCann certainly caused some ruffled feathers when she was so good that the only way she didn’t win was to play with her opposite hand!
Next on our fundraising agenda is a sponsored silence at the beginning of the December (yeah seriously – I’m going to stop talking!), a quiz for Midsummer staff, and another round of trips to the building sites that we are working on. Oh, and on that note I must thank the generosity of the builders on the Charles Church site in Oxley Park in Milton Keynes. Apparently they can’t say no to a pretty lady (or me and Gina it would seem!)
Here’s hoping that we’ll reach the £4,000 mark by 31 December 2006!
