Dawn Irvine, Communications Manager and Gina McLean, Senior Development Officer at Midsummer, are travelling to India in April 2007, where they will be working with charities Shelter and Habit for Humanity to build simple but decent houses for those in desperate need.

As part of the challenge, they need to raise £6,000 before they go, and nearly half of the money they raise will be used to support Shelter’s work with homeless and badly housed families in the UK.

October has been and gone and our pace hasn’t let up. We have been using our considerable charm and feminine wiles to persuade people to help us hold events. Scheduled in so far we have a poker tournament, a pool tournament a football tournament and two gigs by two very good local bands! Add in the Christmas quiz, the karaoke party and the mountain of baking we seem to be agreeing to and it looks like there’ll be no sleep until May.

October saw us exceed the 10 percent mark, so warm thanks for the donations from friends, family and those lovely chaps on the building site we visited in Aylesbury! The corporate sponsors we also owe a huge thank you to are builders Jarvis Contracting Ltd, design agency Astwood Design Consultancy and printers i-sub. THANK YOU.

We’ve also had fabulous prizes donated for the raffle we will be running throughout the fundraising period. We are still looking for a few more though.

The one event Dawn and I are looking forward to is the sponsored silence. We will be having a whole day at work without having to entertain our colleagues, as they are paying us to ‘keep it shut’

Dawn doesn’t realise it but I have been hypnotising her a little bit every day to help her with the old needle fear. Derren Brown eat your heart out………
