Medbourne development officially opened!

March saw the cutting of the ribbon at Midsummer’s first completed EcoHomes Excellent scheme in Milton Keynes.

With special guest, Peter Dixon, Chairman of the Housing Corporation, there to do the honours, residents, representatives from Midsummer, Jarvis Contracting, PRP Architects and others involved in Medbourne’s development turned out to celebrate the completion of this unique scheme.

Developed as a demonstration project for the Government’s national regeneration agency, English Partnerships, Medbourne was constructed using three different types of modern methods of construction – meaning large portions of the homes were built in a factory setting before being brought to the site. This enabled quicker construction, better quality and increased efficiency. The scheme has provided 85 homes for rent, shared ownership and key workers.

With an EcoHomes rating of Excellent, Medbourne boasts lots of environmentally friendly features aimed at reducing the residents’ consumption of energy and water including solar panels, highly efficient condensing boilers, and energy efficient lighting both internally and externally. Landscaping and the provision of bat and bird boxes enhance the ecological value of the site.

When opening the 85-home development, Peter Dixon said:

“I am extremely pleased to perform the official opening of Medbourne, which the Housing Corporation has helped to fund. This development is one of a handful of schemes in the South East that has obtained an EcoHomes rating of Excellent. Midsummer has created well designed homes that people will enjoy living in for many years to come

“This is another example of modern methods of construction producing a high quality development meeting a variety of housing need in the Milton Keynes area.”

To celebrate Medbourne’s contribution to the Government’s sustainable homes agenda, Midsummer teamed up with local bike shop, Phil Corley Cycles, to give all the residents a chance to win a bike – a very sustainable form of transport. The lucky winners were, ironically, Mr and Mrs Green!
