Developing communities as well as homes

As a financially robust organisation, Midsummer has an active development programme averaging 500 starts on site each year. But Midsummer is about much more than building new houses. Our aim is to provide affordable homes in a safe and secure environment in keeping with the surrounding area. To help achieve our goals, we are committed to working in partnership with other organisations and more importantly with our residents to ensure we provide good quality appropriate services.

Examples of our developments:

Our 85-home development at Medbourne, Milton Keynes has achieved the highest possible ECO Homes rating of Excellent. It incorporates three different types of modern methods of construction (MMC), and 12 of the houses are fitted with a solar thermal panel heating and ventilation system.

Designed by PRP Architects and constructed by Jarvis Contracting, this dramatic and innovative development forms part of The Atlas Project and was completed in August 2005. It received a Commendation in The Mail on Sunday National HomeBuilder Awards 2005 for ‘Best Innovative Technology’.

On Bradville, Milton Keynes, we have developed 101 much- needed affordable homes on what is an already well-established housing estate.

The design of our new scheme takes into account the existing surrounding development, and includes lots of landscaped public open spaces and communal gardens. It has been built with all age groups in mind, and provides mixed tenure homes suitable for single persons and couples, right through to families and the elderly. There are ten bungalows that have been designed and built to accommodate disabled persons.

As part of the project, Midsummer has committed to replacing and providing new footpaths, a new roundabout and two new play areas, whilst continually consulting with the existing community to ensure they are in support of the improvements. The final part of this development is due to complete at the end of 2005.
